Hackathons at Girlhacks are intended to promote innovations from women and provide a platform for fostering diversity and influencing the future direction of technology. We encourage diverse teams to build creative solutions, over the course of a single day. Our Terms and conditions are designed to govern the participation of all attendees and ensure a fair and respectful environment for collaborations.
All participants high school students (9th grade and higher only) and older are accepted for enrollment. Any participant that is <18 years old must submit a signed parent/guardian consent form. Walk-ins are not permitted. We expect all participants to complete the registration form rin advance before the submission deadline. Any person who wants to be in attendance must be one of the following:
Participating in the hackathon (i.e. on a team physically at the venue or must check-in on hackathon day).
Accepted to participate
A volunteer, judge or speaker (if not hackathon participant)
Team sizes cannot be greater than 4 members.
All team members must sign in and check in on the day of the hackathon with no exceptions.
Boys are allowed but only a select number are accepted. The acceptance is subject to number of total women and minority participants.
To apply to participate in the Event, please vist the hackathon registration page and follow the instructions to apply. Participation by each team and individual is subject to these Terms and Conditions and guidelines provided by Girlhacks Leadership Team.
The Girlhacks organization will not provide any software, tools, or any cloud resources such as github for completing the hackathon deliverables. The participants are responsible for bringing their own devices including laptops, cell phones, etc. for creating and completing hackathon submissions.
Please note that the Hackathon participants are responsible for use of data and content legally and responsibly. The Hackathon team bears no responsibility of data or content used by participants. The Girlhacks organization neither provides nor takes responsibility of use of any content by the participants.
The Girlhacks Hackathon organizing team expects several checkins on the day of the Hackathon and prior to the event starting from registration. The participants are expected to respond within the provided dates for any checkin including registration, team formation, checkin, submission of the idea and descriptions, submission of hackathon presentations, and any other milestone as informed by Girlhacks team via slack channels, emails and/or this website. Any team not adhering to this may not be eligible for final judging of the idea.
The final submissions are due by 3.30 pm ET via the forums provided by the Girlhacks Hackathon organizing team. Submissions after the deadline are not eligible.
Our Hackathon is made possible by our generous supporters and volunteers who spend a lot of time and effort to host this hackathon. They receive preferential access to serve as judges, speakers and volunteers. Speaking and judging opportunities are provided to honorable members of the community and appointed by the Girlhacks leadership team.
We expect Hackathon submissions to be completed on time as informed by the Hackathon organizing team. Any submission after the eligibility time is subject to be disregarded from the selection process. The selection is based on the decisions by the judging committee for the Hackathon. We expect the participants are available live during for Hackathon submissions and Video recordings of the presentations are not accepted.
Girlhacks does not have ownership to ideas at the hackathon. The goal is to provide a learning and innovation fostering opportunity. Ideas generated during hackathon are generally in their early stages and limited in nature for any intellectual property to be developed. The Girlhacks organization is not responsible or commits to any further activity beyond the Hackathon itself.
Paricipating in the hackathon as a participant, judge, speaker, volunteer is an honor and a privilege. Participation expects the following social contract:

By participating, you are agreeing to the Terms and conditions outlined in this document. Photos and images and videos of the event may be captured during the event to use in social media posts, news stories and publications by Girlhacks Organization.
Participants are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and arrive on time to online events. From the time a participant is registered until the completion of the event, the Hackathon committee publishes information regarding Hackathon. Teams are responsible for following up on updates provided by Hackathon team throughout the process.
Participants attending the Hackathon on-site must sign the liability waiver while entering the building.
We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Participants should use their best judgement when deciding whether to leave their things unattended.
